Iowa Farm Sanctuary (IFS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit animal rescue organization founded in 2015. Our mission is to provide a safe haven for rescued farm animals in need of love and compassion while providing humans the opportunity to experience the unique sentience and intelligence found within these animals. Animal liberation, activism, vegan living, and spreading awareness of modern animal agricultural practices are central to our values. Iowa Farm Sanctuary has no paid staff, and is 100% volunteer driven. A strong Board of Directors is key as we continue to grow the organization’s rescue capacity, animal care program, educational programming, outreach, fundraising goals, and more.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Interest in advocating for animal rights, anti-oppression viewpoint
Ethical vegan values
Experience serving as a board member or nonprofit employee, or willingness to learn about nonprofit management
Professional experience working in a customer or client-oriented role
Good written and oral communication skills
Excellent history of successful collaboration and teamwork
Ability to meet deadlines and accomplish goals on target
Ability to devote at least 5 - 10 hours per week to IFS-related tasks
Commitment to at least 1 year on the Board of Directors, with an option to renew
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Board members have many opportunities to contribute to the success of Iowa Farm Sanctuary based on their personal skills and interests. They must be prepared to devote at least 5 - 10 hours per week (more or less depending on projects) to tasks for the organization. Board members are also expected to devote 2 - 4 hours every other month to board and committee meetings.
Examples of tasks with which board members could assist:
Donor management (appeals, thank you letters, etc.)
Finance (assistance with accounting, taxes, quarterly reports, etc.)
Patreon administration
Grant writing and fundraising
Volunteer coordination and recruitment
Outreach strategy
Event planning
Evaluation
Facilities management
Marketing/communication
Many more options also possible based upon skill and interest
