Naomi’s past is largely a mystery, though we know it involved a lot of suffering. Naomi joined the IFS family in October 2020 after she was found behind an apartment building in Iowa City with her best friend, Lizzo. Both girls were skinny—clearly having been hungry for some time—and missing feathers. The nights were quite cold that time of year, so we know the girls must have been struggling to stay warm. It was so heartbreaking to see them in such poor condition, but thankfully, neither one had serious injuries.

Sadly, chickens are the most commonly abused animals on earth. Exploited in so many different ways, chickens are often regarded as objects rather than living, breathing, feeling individuals, which leads to them being neglected and/or abandoned. Despite everything she went through before she came into our care, Naomi was incredibly social and trusting from the very first moment she arrived at the sanctuary. Throughout her time at IFS, she was human curious and enjoyed tagging along while her human caregivers did chores near the chicken house. She was so worthy of safety, love, and freedom, and we miss her.
